Paying by Direct Debit

To set up or change a direct debit, please download our direct debit form, print and complete it, then post to us using the address on the form.

We’ll need at least 10 working days before your payment is due to set up or change a direct debit.

For mortgages held in personal names:

  • Direct debits can only be set up from a bank account in the name of at least one of the mortgage holders.

For mortgages held by a limited company:

  • Direct debits can only be set up from a bank account in the name of the company.

Confirmation of payee (CoP)

Confirmation of Payee is an 'account name checking service' that helps avoid payments going to the wrong account. It’ll alert you to an account name that differs to the account details provided.

Some landlords have told us that The Mortgage Works is being flagged as not matching the account name. This is because our account is held with Barclays. Just to reassure you, the bank details on this page are correct.

Paying by cheque

Please make cheques payable to The Mortgage Works.

Write on the back:

  • your full name
  • your account number

Redemption payments

A mortgage redemption payment is when you pay off the full outstanding balance of a mortgage.

Redemption payments can only be accepted from a bank account in the name of at least one of the account holders, or the limited company named on the mortgage account.

You may have to pay a redemption administration charge as well as any early repayment charges. For more information, see our tariff of charges (119kb).

After you have sent your payment, we recommend you contact us 3 working days after to confirm you’d like to close your account. We’ll send you written confirmation within 8 working days from the date we get your payment.

Change a payment date

You can change your monthly payment date, but please be aware that on standard mortgage accounts, you can’t miss a monthly payment.

So if you’re changing your payment date from the last day of the month to the first day of the month, you’ll initially have to make two consecutive payments (one payment on the last day of the month, then another payment the next day as it’s the first day of the next month).

How long it takes to process payments

It depends on how you paid:

Cheque Date of receipt. We can’t hold post-dated cheques.
CHAPS or Telegraphic Transfer Same day - If your payment was sent before 3pm on a working day.

The end of the next working day - If your payment was sent after 3pm, or on a non-working day.
BACs We’ll apply the payment as soon as we get it. They usually take 2 to 3 working days to reach us.
